Ever since I was a kid, every source of fashion expertise told me that socks and sandals could never work. But I’m here to tell you that this is a cruel lie, that is almost as bad as the notion that horizontal stripes make you look wider (which they don’t- they make you look thinner!). I have lived my life with shame over my love for this fashion faux pas for years, but finally I’m ready to scream it from the rooftops… I love socks paired with shoes!
I do acknowledge that sometimes this style can look ridiculous (think: flip flops paired with ridiculously high white socks that you bought in a six pack), but most of the time, if you take the time to pair them correcly, this can be an absolutely charming way to punch up an outfit.
My number one favourite way of wearing socks and shoes is the frilly sock combo.
|Me, rocking the style|
I know this is a blast from the past as it was in style in the 1980s, but I believe that the look is adorable and it has the side benefit of reducing the number of blisters I get from wearing high heels as the socks act as a buffer. A lot of people can’t get past the idea that these frilly socks are for little girls, but I say forget them! Embrace the style and make it your own.
My next favourite pairing is a knit sock paired with ankle strap shoes. How adorable is this look? The knit socks adds warmth making this look definitely do-able for those cold winter months.
My next favourite pairing is cute fashion socks paired with open toed heels in a coordinating colour. I know a lot of people think that open toes shoes and socks don’t mix, but just look at the picture below… if you take the time to think out your pairing, it can look incredibly adorable!
My final pairing is a higher rise sock (thjnk: above the calf all the way to a knee sock) and heels. This is an excellent way of covering up in winter but still being able to show off your socks and shoes! I also think this style looks really cute when paired with booties.
Until next time,
