Style Inspiration of the Week: Brigitte Bardot

This week’s featured style icon is the famous bombshell Brigitte Bardot. If you read my last post (Sun, Sand and Stripes: How to Wear Stripes at the Beach), you’ll already know how much I’m in love with her simple, classic style- I just can’t get enough!
This woman knew how to excel in everything and in my books, was a quadruple threat- she was great at acting, singing, modelling, and styling. Everything about her look is timeless and I love that it still remains stylish to this day.

Brigitte Bardot re-popularized Chanel’s iconic Breton stripes and made classic chic look so effortless. Marc Jacob revitalized this look in his S/S 2013 collection and reintroduced Gen Y to this timeless look. Look for a simple striped shirt like I did (I found mine at H & M) and pair it with black skinny jeans or cigarette pants. I love this look because it can be dressy enough to wear to work or casual for a day of errands.

Who doesn’t like a silk scarf? I love how simple the addition of a silk scarf can jazz up an outfit and made it look so put together! Follow in Bardot’s footsteps like miu miu did in their F/W 2013 collection and add a scarf to your closet. This accessory not only brightens your face, but adds a whimsical yet chic air to your ensemble.

Let me tell you, Brigitte Bardot knew how to rock a trench coat. Pair it with a some tall boots, a carpet bag and oversized sunglasses, and you’re in business baby! Rebecca Minkoff creates a little bit more drama with a flouncy, feminine silhouette in her F/W 2011 trench coat, but remains true to the essence of Bardot’s 1960s style. Look for a trench that nips in at the waist and flows away from your hips in order to emphasize your cuves in a way that would make Bardot proud.

Cheat sheet: Brigitte Bardot’s Key Looks
  • shirts with Breton stripes
  • figure flattering pants and shirts
  • silk scarves
  • trench coats

Until next time,
Kaelin
