Old World Meets the Hipster Age: My Adventure at the Aberfoyle Antique Market

I’ve always loved antiquing as it has always made me feel as if I have a real and direct connection to the past. It’s so interesting to look through the items on display at antique markets and speculate on who used to own them, how they were used, and how they ended up here at the market.

Last weekend, I headed to the Aberfoyle Antique Market to see if I could find any treasures dressed in a lovely 50’s inspired swing dress. I love this whimsical cherry printed dress by Hell Bunny- it features a full skirt which makes twirling an absolute necessity!

These antique wooden crates spoke to me and I could totally envision them in my future home. I thought they would bring a nice antique touch to the house, but would also be a practical storage solution.

I could just image myself adding a basket to the front of that gorgeous green bike, and then adventuring all across Toronto!
It was at this point where I fell in love. I rounded a corner, and my eyes were immediately drawn to a beautiful sideboard and china cabinet, both a brilliant shade of turquoise. I knew I needed to own these two unique pieces and ended up walking away with them for a steal!

I can already picture this sideboard in my home- a large, curved mirror resting on its top, and adorned with a vase full of vibrant yellow sunflowers.

This china cabinet is not as old as the sideboard (only dates back to the 1940s), but its lovely detailing won me over. It also featured a humorous note that made me laugh: “Hottest Colour This Year! Old World Meets the Hipster Age!”

All in all, I had a great time exploring the antique market and highly recommend it as a weekend adventure! The Aberfoyle Antique Market is open every Sunday from 8am to 4pm until it closes for the winter on October 26th, 2014. For more details, please visit the Aberfoyle Antique Market website.

Until next time,
